tans men prepared the giraffeskins. They were nearly an inch thick, and all the fathas to be carefully removed in order to prepare them.This takes several hours, and then follows the equallyimportant salting process, for which we used LakeTchad salt, which removes the moisture from theskins. They are then folded, and hung on the branchof a tree all night; the next morning they aretaken down, shaken free of water, and scraped clearof salt. Then the salting process is carried out allover again, and the skin is turned inside out and hungup to dry in an airy place sheltered from the sun. The following day I shot a wild boar, a Ducker,and a fine equine antelope. (Illus. 70, 72.) We enjoyed hunting with the Arabs. They possessall the characteristics of a superior race, although theyhave little in common with their brethren in Syriaand Egypt, their skins being black, and their clothingscanty.
