The table and chairsare, of course, of the same colouredwood used in the ceiling and wain-scot, and the rug is an India cottonof dark and light blues and white.The sideboard is an arrangement offixed shelves, but covered with abeautiful collection of blue china,which serves to furnish the table aswell. Thisis dyed with madder, and exactlyrepeats the red of the porcelain, whileit is extremely durable both in col-our and texture. Borders of yellowstitchery, or straggling fringes of silkand beads, add very much to theeffect of the drapery and to the char-acter of the room. A library in ordinary family lifehas two parts to play. It is notonly to hold books, but to make thefamily at home in a literary atmos-phere. Such a room is apt to be afascinating one by reason of thisvery variety of use and purpose,and because it is a centre for allthe family treasures.
