Once more the heaviest locomotive hasbeen built, this time by the Baldwin Loco-motive Work for the Atchison, Topeka &Santa Fe road, and the illustration is oneof a large order. There are many interesting details inthese engines most of which will have tobe held over until next month on accountof not being able to get the necessaryengravings ready. These will appear nextmonth. Among the noticeable details, however,are the cranes (one on each side) for han-dling the high pressure cylinders shouldit be necessary to remove them for re-pairs or to handle cylinder heads andvalves. These are hardy appliances andwith the main and side rods now in use,a similar device for this purpose would bewelcomed by many.
