Theyare advertised in the daily papers, leave promptly at cer-tain hours, and are very generally patronized, especiallywhere large parties desire to attend, such as lodges, soci-eties and the like, for whom it would be difficult andexpensive to provide a sufficient number of carriages.The cemeteries in question are the principle ones used,and are 10 and 12 miles from the business center of thetown. As an illustration of theserailroad funeral trains, that of the Chicago & NorthernPacific will answer. The car in which the bodies arecarried, is divided into two compartments, one of whichis occupied by the bearers, or guard of honor, and is asexpensively furnished as the finest sleepers. The car wasbuilt by the Pullman Company-, and is the finest of thekind ever constructed in this country. It departs daily atI p. m. The charges are 50 cents for the casket, andthe same price per passenger for the round trip. At thecemetery, hearses are kept to carry the body to the grave.The passengers occupy comfortable coaches attachedbehind the funeral car. Where parties desire an exclusivecar, it is furnished at $15 for the round trip.
