Barbara H. Rosenwein

Barbara Herstein Rosenwein (* 1. März 1945 in Chicago, USA) ist eine US-amerikanische Mittelalter- und Emotionshistorikerin sowie emeritierte Professorin der Loyola University Chicago.

Leben

Rosenwein studierte bis 1968 an der University of Chicago, wo sie 1974 auch promovierte.

Bereits ab 1971 lehrte sie als Instructor bis 1974 an der Loyola University Chicago. Anschließend wirkte sie bis 1980 als Assistant Professor und danach bis 1988 als Associate Professor. Im Jahr 1988 wurde sie in eine ordentliche Professur berufen. Seit ihrer Emeritierung wirkt sie dort weiterhin als Professor emerita (2015).

Darüber hinaus nahm sie Gastprofessuren an der École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, der École Normale Supérieure in Paris, Universität Utrecht; Universität Göteborg, Technischen Universität Dresden, University of Oxford sowie der Universität Reykjavik wahr.

Rosenwein forschte und publizierte anfangs vor allem im Bereich der Mediävistik, später kam die Emotionsgeschichte hinzu. Dazu gehören auch verschiedene Lehrbücher, welche teils mehrfach aufgelegt wurden. Ihre Werke wurden unter anderem ins Italienische, Portugiesische, Polnische, Türkische, Serbische und Japanische übersetzt.
