Sol

[Quelltext bearbeiten]

Thanks a lot for the very fast reply. Yes, I was guessing about Asteğmen.

But I found some ranks which have "sol" in it; for example in an Uigur online dictionary (should be near to Turkish, right?) the rank of "sol qol wezir" which is given as meaning "left-side vizier, second vizier" . On an English forum someone wrote me that he had come across an Egyptian rank of "Sol Qol Agassi" which I guess as "ağası" - is it possible?; "qol" should be a transcription of Arab letters - is the word lost in modern Turkish? It should mean "hand" or "side", I guess; Germ wiki says that ağa was something like a captain in the late Ottoman Army. In that case "sol qol ağası" it could mean a rank like "under-captain, deputy of captain". So maybe "sol xyz" was used as meaning the junior rank. Possible?

So I think the origin of this Egyptian-German-African "Sol" maybe was some title which had the "sol" in it like the examples above meaning "so-and-so-rank of the left side"; Maybe there was a "sol qol teğmen"? Thanks and I am glad to hear if you find some more. (de:Benutzer_Diskussion:Kipala) -- --Kipala 23:57, 5. Mai 2008 (CEST)Beantworten

Unterfeldwebel was in German before 1918 "Sergeant" - and thats Betschausch (Başçavuş) in East Africa. If you find a possible rank with "Sol" inside like these "Sol Ulufeciler" or "sol qol ağası" I will be very glad. Good Nite! --Kipala 00:37, 6. Mai 2008 (CEST)Beantworten
