I apologize for writing in English.

The content of this page is incorrect. Originally the Waalian interglacial indeed spanned the time interval that is mentioned in the text. However, Zagwijn (who introduced the Waalian Interglacial), noticed that the time interval around the Jaramillo Magnetic event is not the Waalian. He introduced a new stage for this interglacial: Bavelian. The Bavelian consists of two interglacials and two glacials. The interglacials are: Bavel Interglacial (the oldest in the Bavelian), and Leerdam Interglacial. The Bavel interglacial includes the upper part of the Jaramillo subchron (with the change from normal to reversed polarity).

The introduction of the Bavelian (although written in German language!) was not noticed by many Quaternary researchers and these remained writing about the Waalian where they in fact meant the Bavel Interglacial. This mistake is made in this lemma also. The Uhlenberg Interglazial most probably is an equivalent of the Bavel Interglacial (and not of the Waalian).

I will correct this in the future as soon as I can find the time to do so. --Tom Meijer 19:05, 29. Mär. 2007 (CEST)Beantworten
