Emma Toft (1891-1982) "Miss Emma", who is also often referred to as "Wisconsin's first lady of conservation" due to her life-long conservation efforts in Door County, Wisconsin, USA[1].
Emma's father purchased a 300 acres large ancient forest, later named Toft's Point, before her birth. Miss Emma successfully fought against the exploitation of the area by developers, which resulted in a unique and valuable ecosystem, still intact today. Emma Toft eventually left Toft's Point and the associated Ridges Sanctuary to the Wisconsin Chapter of the Nature Conservancy and the University of Wisconsin[2]. Ridges Sanctuary and Toft's point are open all year round for visitors.
Wisconsin Public Television featured Miss Emma in a documentary with the name 'Emma Toft: One with Nature'[3]
