Haydeh Changizian

Haydeh Changizian ( June 18, 1945) was the former prima ballerina of the National Ballet of Iran was born in Iran and began dancing at age of 6, trained in Tehran with Yelena Avedisian and Sarkis Djanbazian. When she was 15, she became a student at the Institute of Performing Dance in Cologne, Germany and was trained by teachers such as Todd Bolender and Leon Woizikovski. By age of 17, she was offered a professional contract in Germany, however she chose to study at the Vaganova Choreographic School where she had the chance to work with one of the most prominent Ballet teachers: Elena Shirpina. Upon finishing her training there, she continued her studies to become a teacher at the same school. Soon after her graduation, Hayedeh Changizian returned to Germany where she joined the Frankfurt Ballet. She performed leading roles in „Giselle“, „The Firebird” and „Romeo and Juliet“. Six years later she left Germany to return to the National Ballet of Iran directed by Nejad Ahmadzadeh. Subsequently, Iran´s Queen Farah Diba offered her to work as the artistic director at Niavaran Cultural Center to form another Ballet company. However, shortly after the Islamic revolution of 1979, all artistic ventures forced to be swept away and Changizian left Iran and returned to Europe. She later immigrated to the US where she performed at the Willshire Ebell Theater and the Santa Barbara Ballet. Changizian was the founder and director of Anahita Cultural Center for Arts and Dance dedicated to presenting Iranian Arts and exhibitions for respected Iranian Artists.
