What is wiki-tennis?

wiki-tennis is a collection of Python scripts to support members of the various Wikipedia:WikiProjects Tennis of the different Wikipedia language versions. It aims to provide copy&paste Wikicode as the basis for certain repetitive tasks, e.g. the list of tournament wins of a player or tournament brackets in the respective local Wikipedia format/templates.

Which features does wiki-tennis offer now and potentially in the future?

Currently, wiki-tennis provides the following features:

  • ATP: current and historic, singles and doubles
  • WTA: current, singles and doubles
• /PlayerTournamentWins
  • ATP: singles and doubles (no Wikidata integration)

In the medium term, wiki-tennis seeks to implement the following additional features:

  • ATP & WTA: Wikidata integration
  • WTA: singles and doubles

How can I use wiki-tennis?

Webservice

The most common way to use wiki-tennis as a Wikipedia editor is via Wikimedia's Toolforge (used to be Wikimedia Labs) and its webservice. You can access wiki-tennis and its most up-to-date code via

Local installation

You may also download wiki-tennis and run the scripts locally either by shell scripts or via a Python environment. The source code is available via GitHub and also Wikimedia's Phabricator as a clone:

Update 2020-04-25: Multi-language and Wikidata support for Tournament wins

• [Add] Player Tournament Wins: player label (=name), link on a specific Wikipedia language version and country code are pulled from Wikidata, info from website still as fallback available
• [Add] Player Tournament Wins: supports multiple languages, added Dutch (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebruiker:Mad_melone/wiki-tennis/PlayerTournamentWins) as first example
• [Changes] Player Tournament Wins: supports formats that also show finals losses next to tournament wins (=finals wins)

Update 2020-04-12: ATP doubles tournament wins

• [Add] Player tournament wins also for ATP double tournaments - no Wikidata integration yet, therefore Welt Welt as country for doubles partner until resolved
