Paul Douglas Hillier (* 9 Februar 1949 in Dorchester, England) ist ein Dirigent, Musikdirektor und Bariton. Sein Spezialgebiet sind die Alte Musik und die Neue Musik, besonders die Werke der Komponisten Steve Reich und Arvo Pärt. Hillier studierte an der Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Sein Konzertdebüt gab er im Jahr 1974 im Purcell Room in London.

1974 gründete Hillier zusammen mit dem Tenor Paul Elliott und dem Countertenor David James das Hilliard Ensemble. Hillier blieb bis zur Gründung des Theatre of Voices im Jahr 1990 der Leiter des Ensembles. Neben Alter Musik hatte dieser Klangkörper zunehmend ein zeitgenössisches Repertoire. this group explores more contemporary repertoire. Mit dem 1992 erschienenen Album A Land of Pure Delight nahm Hillier zusammen mit dem Chicagoer Kammerchor His Majestie's Clerkes frühe amerikanische Komponisten wie William Billings auf.
Hillier later became Director of the Early Music Institute at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and, at the same time, of the Pro Arte Singers, remaining so until he left the Institute in 2003. The Pro Arte Singers joined the Theatre of Voices in a couple of recordings. In 2001, he became the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.[1]
Since 2003, Hillier has been Chief Conductor of Ars Nova (Copenhagen). In 2008, was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the National Chamber Choir of Ireland.
Hillier has recorded a number of solo albums, some with harpist Andrew Lawrence-King, on the Harmonia Mundi, ECM, EMI, Finlandia and Hyperion labels.

Starting in 1980, Hillier has held a variety of academic appointments over the years, most recently as Director of Indiana University Bloomington's Early Music Institute.
