Maria Magdelena KREIBICH married Johann Karasek 27 September 1795 Dresden Sachsen

Magdelena Kreibich was born Maria Magdelena on 13 April 1778 in Warnsdorf [Varnsdorf] in Northern Bohemia, the daughter of Johann Georg Kreibich and Maria Catharina Wolff. On 27 September 1795, in the Katholische HofKirche Dresden, Magdelena Kreibich married Johann Karasek (born 10 September 1764, died 14 September 1809 Dresden). Their daughter, Maria Veronika was born on 2 January 1797 in Neuleutersdorf, a Bohemian enclave in Sachsen, Germany, and was brought up by a foster family. Magdelena and Johann were notorious colourful characters in many well-known stories, with local walks, a museum and re-enactments. It seems that Johann Karasek agreed to be the leader of a local band of robbers only if they never stole from churches or in the local area. The band was based at the Kreibich-schenke Inn in Neuwalde (see also www.karasekschenke.de). The Inn was run by Johann Georg Kreibich, although today only the foundations are evident in a nearby open field - the building was torn down in 1804. History shows that the band of robbers were caught on the 1 August, 1800, and taken to Bautzen, and two weeks later, Magdalena was also taken to prison. Johann Karasek was sent to Dresden prison, tried to escape several times, and then put in a solitary cell. He died there on 14 September, 1809. After a two year prison sentence, Magdelena lived quietly until about 1860 in Georgswald [now called Jiříkov in the Czech Republic].
