"meist kurz Otto Habsburg"?

There is NO evidence that he ever called himself "Otto Habsburg". He was universally known as Otto von Habsburg, including in his country of residence and citizenship, and as an elected Member of the European Parliament. That was his official name where he lived all his life since he was exiled, and his official name as far as the European Union is concerned. Austria is a member of the EU and thus bound to respect the official name of an MEP from another EU country (namely Germany). How would Austrians react if Germans invented their own name for the Austrian president and chancellor and other politicians, and the people the Austrians sent as their MEPs?

Whether the Austrian Republic, as one of several successor states of the Habsburg Monarchy/Austria-Hungary, insisted on referring to him by a wrong name which he didn't use or recognise isn't really relevant. He never lived in the Austrian Republic and held passports and citizenships of many countries. His official name in his country of residence and primary country of citizenship, and for which he was elected as an MEP, namely Germany, and the name under which is universally known to the whole world, clearly takes precedence. --MariaBrusseleir (Diskussion) 22:44, 2. Es geht nicht darum wie er sich selbst genannt hat, sondern wie er, vor allem in der Literatur genannt wird. --Otberg (Diskussion) 22:53, 2. Dez. 2017 (CET)
