Wisdom of the East („Weisheit des Ostens“) ist eine englische Buchreihe mit oder zu philosophischen und religiösen Texten des Orients, die bei John Murray in London erschienen ist.

Kurzeinführung[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Viele der Bücher wurden in den ersten beiden Jahrzehnten des 20. Jahrhunderts unter der Herausgeberschaft von L. Cranmer-Byng und S. A. Kapadia veröffentlicht.[1]

Die thematisch breit aufgestellte Reihe, an der zahlreiche Fachgelehrte mitgearbeitet haben, umspannt Bahai-Texte, Texte aus dem Buddhismus, der chinesischen Philosophie, altägyptische Legenden, Judentum, hinduistische Vedanta-Philosophie, Islam, Sufi-Poesie, klassische japanische Dichter, Sikhismus, Daoismus, Zoroastrismus, um nur einige Themenbereiche aus dem weiten Feld der Orientalistik des ehemaligen Britischen Weltreiches zu nennen. Viele der Bände liegen inzwischen digitalisiert vor.
