Büchig is a part of the urban district of Blankenloch, one of the five urban districts forming the district town of Stutensee.

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1373 as "Buchech". It was under the governance of Blankenloch until 1786, when it became an independent municipality. On April 1, 1936, it was incorporated into Blankenloch by an administrative measure.

The first census in 1709 by the administration of the margraviate of Baden-Durlach (Markgrafschaft Baden-Durlach) showed a population of 50 people. In 1933, there were 290. Due to the arrival of displaced persons after the Second World War and the “Wirtschaftswunder”, the number of inhabitants started increasing abruptly after 1945 to about 3.670 people. Since then, the number of inhabitants has not increased significantly.

Some typical surnames that have been represented for centuries and still have family members in Büchig or even Blankenloch are: Abel, Amolsch, Becker, Dörflinger, Frick(h), Gamer, Gierich, Grimm, Haisch, He(e)ger, Heidenreich, Hemperle, Hermann, Hofheintz, Kiefer, Lehmann, Mohrhardt, Nagel, Pfattheicher, Raupp, Schorb, Se(e)ger, Seitz, Ullrich.

Influenced by the house of Baden-Durlach, Büchig was Protestant village until the end of the Second World War. This later changed due to the high number of displaced persons: Büchig established a Catholic parish, which at first celebrated mass together with the Catholic Blankenloch St. Josef parish in Blankenloch. Later, Catholic mass took place in the Büchig Aussegnungshalle. In 1994, the foundation for a Catholic-Protestant parish center "Heilig-Geist" was laid.

Partly due to its small size, Büchig was spared from many a war. For example, enemy troops passed by it during the Thirty Years' War because they simply could not see it through the thick forest. However, the First and especially the Second World War left their mark, which the war memorials in honor of the fallen soldiers still remind us of.

Many habitants migratetd at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, especially to North America.

Altes Rathaus

Along with Blankenloch, Büchig became part of the new municipality of Stutensee on January 1, 1975.

Apart from residential homes, Büchig has an old town hall, an elementary school as well as two kindergartens, a few stores, several contractors, a sports club as well as two cemeteries and a funeral hall.

The proximity to Karlsruhe and with Büchig being connected to the local tram infrastructure make it an attractive place to live, especially for commuters to Karlsruhe.
